Sam the Cat and Other Stories
Matthew Klam

Nine Lives (and All of Them Unhappy) -- Reading this book is like spending a long, long weekend with someone so lost in feeling sorry that he's emotionally incapable of focusing on anything or anyone but himself for any prolonged length of time. (Say two or more minutes.) The narrators in these stories are so lacking in sympathy that I've got to hand it to first-timer Matthew Klam for having the guts to test our patience so. The real test, however, is what his second book will hold. More of the same, or something different and equally daring?
